Drive into the Future in a Toyota Hybrid

Make the change towards a sustainable future, without sacrificing power or performance. Choose a Toyota Hybrid – available in a wide range of award-winning models.

WHY CHOOSE A HYBRID?

There have never been more reasons to choose a Toyota Hybrid vehicle.

POWER & PERFORMANCE

Hybrids don’t compromise on power or performance. They are designed with the same, and sometimes greater, level of performance as their gas counterpart

RECHARGE ON THE GO

You do not need to plug in a Toyota Hybrid. Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive charges your battery on-the-go, so you don’t need to change how you fuel your vehicle – just how often you fill up. In fact, it’s identical to fuelling a conventional gas-powered vehicle. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, like the Prius Prime, can optionally be plugged in for extended electric-only range.

NO ADDITIONAL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

Hybrids follow the same maintenance routines as conventional gas vehicles. However, hybrid systems can reduce how often other areas of the car need servicing. In a hybrid, the engines are off some of the time; the brakes are regenerative, saving pad & rotor life; there is no transmission fluid under load; and there are no starters, alternators or belts to be replaced.

REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Since 1997, Toyota hybrids have prevented over 94 million tons of CO2 emissions globally.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

Hybrid batteries can be dismantled and recycled just like any other battery, plus they’re designed to last! Since 2001, over 98% of Toyota hybrids in Canada have never had their original battery replaced. All hybrid components are backed by an 10 year/240,000 km warranty. Toyota Canada has a recycling program in place that recycles hybrid batteries once they can no longer be used in vehicles.

READY FOR CANADIAN WINTERS

Hybrids have been tested extensively in cold weather, so they are ready for every season. You can be confident that all Toyota hybrids have been designed and tested for life in Canada. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is even built in Canada; built by Canadians, for Canadians.

HOW HYBRIDS WORK

Toyota hybrids can operate in electric-only mode, gas-mode only, or a combination of both, automatically without any driver input. This results in a powertrain that produces up to 70% less emissions than conventional gas and diesel.

Toyota Hybrid System

While hybrids benefit from engine-shut-off and more EV (electric-only) driving in the city, the latest generation Toyota hybrid systems feature highly efficient gasoline engines for highway driving; the system can even enter EV mode while cruising on a highway in certain conditions. Toyota’s hybrid system seamlessly determines what combination of electric and gas engine power is required based on your driving conditions.

START UP

Electric motor is engaged, saving fuel and delivering instant torque

ACCELERATION

The gas engine and electric motor combine for seamless acceleration. Excess energy is used to recharge the battery.

DECELERATION

Electric motor takes over and converts braking energy into electric energy to help recharge the battery.

RESTING & REVERSING

When stopped, the gas engine shuts down to conserve fuel unless the battery is low. Only the electric motor is required for reversing.

SAFETY FEATURES

All Toyota hybrids and their components have been designed and tested for life in Canada and adhere to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Plus, Toyota Safety Sense comes standard on all hybrid vehicles. The batteries are sealed in a protective metal case and insulated from the vehicle body. Additionally, hybrid battery cables are shrouded in bright-orange cladding as a warning to emergency workers.
